Belize nationalises telecoms to protect from ‘predatory’ Lord Ashcroft

The Prime Minister of Belize has nationalised the country’s main telecommunications service, claiming that he was removing it from the control of the “predatory” Lord Ashcroft, reports The Times.

Dean Barrow accused the billionaire peer of striking deals with the previous ruling party, which he had funded, that resulted in his running a near-monopoly that paid no taxes.
